In salary studies, some professional fields appear more lucrative than they actually are. The reason: the income of managerial staff is significantly higher than that of other employees and drives the average upwards. This is different with the large 2019 salary atlas, on which our ranking is based: Only data from specialists without personnel responsibility was included here.

For the current salary atlas, 492,171 salary details from the past twelve months were evaluated – 60 percent from men, 40 percent from women. The data comes from the portals lohn.de, lohnsvergleich.com and compensation-partner.de.

Top 10: top salaries in the financial sector

  1. That’s enough for their own Black Forest clinic: senior physicians are in first place with an average gross annual salary of 121,082 euros a year.
  2. Mergers & Acquisitions Specialists follow at some distance: The specialists for the sale and merger of companies earn an average of 105,621 euros.
  3. Fund managers land in third place: The wealth and investment professionals earn 90,054 euros.
  4. Fourth place is again claimed by physicians: specialists have an average annual salary of 88,521 euros.
  5. Sales strategists not only ensure good figures for their employers: As a regional sales manager, an annual income of 81,602 euros is usual.
  6. Key account managers receive EUR 80,990 for looking after important corporate customers.
  7. Securities traders do not get quite as much as their colleagues from the fund business, bringing it to 77,004 euros.
  8. Experts from sales management also earn very well with 76,490 euros.
  9. Hardly anyone is closer to the numbers than an actuary, but in the top 10 high earners he only makes it to the penultimate place – with 73,731 euros.
  10. Business developers bring up the rear with an average of 71,272 euros – which is still a lot, the average salary nationwide is 45,000 euros.

The tendency is clear: if you want to achieve great things financially and have a talent for numbers, you should look around in the financial world. University graduates will find numerous trainee offers – for example at the commercial bank HSBC or the Hypovereinsbank. The chances are good even without a university degree: Talented career changers can find opportunities to start at financial service providers such as tecis and OVB Vermögensberatung AG. Flop 10: gastronomy, care, service

  1. Kitchen helpers have to make do with a gross income of only 23,454 euros and thus earn the least in Germany.
  2. Hairdressers are hardly better off with 24,434 euros – they end up in second flop place.
  3. Third place again goes to a job in the catering industry: with their gross annual income of just 24,884 euros, waiters are dependent on tips.
  4. Fourth place goes to receptionists in the hotel industry: they come to 27,282 euros.
  5. Fifth place in the middle of the low earners: call center agents with a salary of 28,101 euros per year.
  6. Cashiers receive an average of 28,363 euros for jobs in hardware stores or supermarkets, putting them in sixth place.
  7. Seventh place: The salary of chefs is not lavish, but at 29,053 euros it is at least significantly better than the salary of their assistants.
  8. Is there really a smile on the payroll? Dental assistants take eighth place with 29,461 euros.
  9. The nursing staff cracks at least the 30,000 euro mark: 30,357 euros per year.
  10. Among the low-income earners, professional drivers are in the best position: truck drivers get 30,467 euros.
