You can often read about topics such as climate change and environmental protection in the media. Sustainability is also becoming more and more important in house building, where up to now the focus has been purely on energy efficiency.
Sustainable building should help to reduce energy consumption, save costs and create a healthy environment for residents. With this design, the required energy can be covered regeneratively. For example, hot water is generated in a bio-solar house via a solar thermal system or a photovoltaic system. With a photovoltaic system, household electricity or heat can be produced.
The special feature of bio-solar houses is the so-called house-in-house principle, which is considered a prime example of modern solar architecture. The greenhouse principle enables light to be converted into heat and thus heating energy can be saved. At the same time, sustainable building can solve a problem that often occurs in low-energy and passive houses. This avoids the acute risk of mold and condensation due to the natural solar heat.
Drinking water is one of the most valuable resources. In Germany, the average daily consumption per person is about 120 liters, not counting garden irrigation. Flushing the toilet alone devours more than a third of daily water consumption, the rest is used primarily for bathing and showering. The use of rainwater can significantly reduce water consumption in the household and thus contribute to cost reductions in the long term.
In sustainable construction, care is taken to ensure that there are additional lines to the toilets. In addition, household appliances such as the washing machine or dishwasher can use rainwater, further minimizing the need for fresh water. Can sustainable building protect against health risks?
Bio-solar houses are mostly made of wood. The building material is considered sustainable, natural and durable. In addition, wooden parts are recyclable and can later be used for other purposes.
In bio-solar houses, wood is used in the form of solid structural timber, such as for the wooden support frame, and in the form of recycled cellulose for thermal insulation. In addition, wood fiber is also used as a material for summer heat protection and as the basis of the outer house. Despite the high proportion of glass, it is particularly cool in a bio-solar house in summer.
Various factors are responsible for the pleasant house temperature. On the one hand, the shading in the roof area of the conservatory prevents the sun’s rays, which penetrate the inner conservatory glazing, from creating a greenhouse effect in the house. To ensure the necessary sun and heat protection, the inner conservatory door is kept closed during the day. The house is aired in the evening and night hours and thus prepared for the next day.
Sustainability in house construction should not only protect the earth’s resources, but also enable the residents of the house to have a better quality of life. Since ecological materials that contain no pollutants are used as far as possible in construction, health hazards can be ruled out. This is an important aspect in view of the fact that people will work from home more often in the future.
